How things have changed. Daegu is one of Korea's conservative and homophobic strongholds. Last year Daegu Pride was obstructed and subjected to homophobic hate crime. Police did little to help. 1 year later: Daegu police receive education session on Daegu Queer Culture Festival. pic.twitter.com/FVV788RmVL — Raphael Rashid (@koryodynasty) May 25, 2019ALT
Crazy homophobia in South Korea: Daegu mayor Hong Joon-pyo has ordered the mobilisation of 450 people to *demolish* Daegu Pride that "disgusts people" if planners dare to setup booths tomorrow. *But* major discord: Daegu police say they will protect pride's "freedom of assembly" https://t.co/AuxOhj4DOH — Raphael Rashid (@koryodynasty) June 16, 2023ALT
A court has already rejected the Christian right's injunction application to block Daegu Pride. Mayor Hong argues that Daegu Pride's occupation of the road is "illegal" and that citizens' "right to passage" should take precedence, has vowed to demolish the festival. — Raphael Rashid (@koryodynasty) June 16, 2023ALT
Daegu police, on the other hand, have promised to protect the festival and will assist with car/bus detours. It stated that the festival is in accordance with relevant laws and that freedom of assembly is guaranteed by the constitution. Will ensure no human or material damage. — Raphael Rashid (@koryodynasty) June 16, 2023ALT
An unprecedented and absurd showdown between intolerance and freedom is unfolding in Daegu right now: 100s of civil servants (yellow) deployed by the homophobic mayor who wants to demolish small pride festival vs. 100s of police ready to protect event's assembly freedom. https://t.co/ZQDhSe71Yd — Raphael Rashid (@koryodynasty) June 17, 2023ALT
the police in daegu protesting against the city mayor and removing christian protestors at the pride festival oh wow pic.twitter.com/9szHVLubkj — 햄냥 ★ (@hwngbun) June 18, 2023ALT

Wow, Daegu (South Korea) went from not protecting Daegu Pride in 2018 the way they should've to receiving education sessions on Queer culture and becoming public allies and vowing to protect Pride from then on and doing exactly so every single year culminating in this year when their hobgoblin of a mayor tried to destroy Pride, and now even protesting in favor of Pride? Growth.

Daegu court: freedom of expression basic human rights. Pride festival will be allowed to go ahead, injunction applications by anti-pride groups denied Daegu mayor PPP Hong Jun-pyo: Queer festival is unlawful and I’ll hold Daegu police chief accountable Daegu police: ? Me: wat https://t.co/b5QQIi4nX9 — Jeongmin Kim (@jeongminnkim) June 17, 2023ALT

It's important to note that the courts also supported Pride and the mayor publicly threatened the police chief, yet the police still went to protect and support Pride.

Daegu court: “… Freedom of expression, which ensures the exchange of diverse ideas and opinions, is a fundamental right that forms the basis of democracy. Therefore, limiting such freedom of expression should be exercised with caution."https://t.co/KUZJRaKKwI — Jeongmin Kim (@jeongminnkim) June 17, 2023ALT

"South Korean news agency Yonhap estimated that about 500 protesters and 1,500 police officers were at the scene. The festival ultimately continued, with the parade taking place as planned."

Embassies are also at Daegu Pride at the moment. While their presence at pride events is sometime the subject of scrutiny by LGBTQ activists themselves, it's more than just distributing stickers. Their role has transformed into one of protection and shielding from hate violence. pic.twitter.com/etgrgZuZyE — Raphael Rashid (@koryodynasty) June 17, 2023ALT
Following the hideous homophobic violence in Incheon in 2018, like-minded embassies made an informal agreement to attend all the major pride events in Korea when possible. By being there, police have an even greater duty to protect the pride event. https://t.co/eKtjwoS5ls — Raphael Rashid (@koryodynasty) June 17, 2023ALT

This won’t make your blog look ugly. How could you not reblog this? REBLOGGING THIS COULD SAVE A LIFE!!!

recycled-soul

This goes for assholes, too, guys. I know a couple who went tubing once, and they had to re-air their tubes, but the guy thought it would be funny to stick the tip of the air compressor up to her bikini trunks, the air ruptured something inside her and she died within thirty minutes.

WHAT?

The thing about this? It’s in every pregnancy book I’ve read.

WHAT?????

Why is it in pregnancy books but not sex ed books?

Because the men in charge only care about the health and safety of women in so far as it enables them to have babies.

Reblogging with a link because I thought this was a legit joke. Never heard it before. Like I knew you could kill a person by inserting air into a vein but still.

As a general rule of thumb, do not push air into any bodily orifice, regardless of gender. It never ends well. Air compressors and the human body do NOT mix.

Not even the mouth, shit can rupture a lung.

My son has set the house up with a Pi-Hole. It’s a raspberry pi running Ad blocking on the whole house’s network. We’re a few hours in and we’re seeing effects, as well as some teething problems. — Simon McGarr (@Tupp_Ed) August 11, 2022ALT

>First, we’ve discovered that about a quarter of all the internet connection in or out of the house were ad related. In a few hours, that’s about 10,000 out of 40,000 processed.

>We also discovered that every link on Twitter was blocked. This was solved by whitelisting the https://t.co domain.

>Once out browsing the Web, everything is loading pretty much instantly. It turns out most of that Page Loading malarkey we’ve been accustomed to is related to sites running auctions to sell Ad space to show you before the page loads. All gone now.

>We then found that the Samsung TV (which I really like) is very fond of yapping all about itself to Samsung HQ. All stopped now. No sign of any breakages in its function, so I’m happy enough with that.

>The primary source of distress came from the habitual Lemmings player in the house, who found they could no longer watch ads to build up their in-app gold. A workaround is being considered for this.

>The next ambition is to advance the Ad blocking so that it seamlessly removed YouTube Ads. This is the subject of ongoing research, and tinkering continues. All in all, a very successful experiment.

>Certainly this exceeds my equivalent childhood project of disassembling and assembling our rotary dial telephone. A project whose only utility was finding out how to make the phone ring when nobody was calling.

For you can do it too!https://t.co/l1SLzPrzp6 — Simon McGarr (@Tupp_Ed) August 11, 2022ALT

>Update: All4 on the telly appears not to have any ads any more. Goodbye Arnold Clarke!

They show your your stats on a neat little dashboard. pic.twitter.com/RQB39IvnKD — Simon McGarr (@Tupp_Ed) August 12, 2022ALT

>Lemmings problem now solved.

>Can confirm, after small tests, that RTÉ Player ads are now gone and the player on the phone is now just delivering swift, ad free streams at first click.

>Some queries along the lines of “Are you not stealing the internet?” Firstly, this is my network, so I may set it up as I please (or, you know, my son can do it and I can give him a stupid thumbs up in response). But there is a wider question, based on the ads=internet model.

>I’m afraid I passed the You Wouldn’t Download A Car point back when I first installed ad-blocking plug-ins on a browser. But consider my chatty TV. Individual consumer choice is not the method of addressing pervasive commercial surveillance.

>Should I feel morally obliged not to mute the TV when the ads come on? No, this is a standing tension- a clash of interests. But I think my interest in my family not being under intrusive or covert surveillance at home is superior to the ad company’s wish to profile them.

There’s a handy explanatory video from Dr. Johnny Ryan which sets out how we could end up with Just So Much ads. Each webpage load can potentially run an auction (with you as the prize pig on the block) sending data to loads of different brokers. https://t.co/wUosBLjM3f — Simon McGarr (@Tupp_Ed) August 12, 2022ALT
Privacy International has a short and clear guide to what hardware you can use for setting up a Pi-Hole as well as some setup instructions. Ad-blocking (home surveillance thwarting) is a human rights issue too!https://t.co/1vphCsaug1 — Simon McGarr (@Tupp_Ed) August 12, 2022ALT

>Aside: 24 hours of Pi Hole stats suggests that Samsung TVs are very chatty. 14,170 chats a day.

>YouTube blocking seems difficult, as the ads usually come from the same domain as the videos. Haven’t tried it, but all of the content can also be delivered from a no-cookies version of the YouTube domain, which doesn’t have the ads. I have asked my son to poke at that idea.

This has proved a popular thread. I have no soundcloud, and the things I sell are not of general use. But you can always follow & support Digital Rights Ireland (who once knocked down a state surveillance law for half a billion people) @DRIalerts https://t.co/vrAPYsxjP4 — Simon McGarr (@Tupp_Ed) August 13, 2022ALT

Hey friends.

We’ve been struggling a lot lately. My health has been getting pretty bad and I’m up most nights losing sleep from it. I’m very exhausted and despite my new job, we aren’t able to cover temporary shelter while I look for a place for us to live. We are out of food and I don’t have my food stamps to help with that anymore either. I am burning out and really could use some support so we can finally get out of this mess and be self-dependent again. Anything helps, including shares.

🚨Major emergency🚨

My roommate is sick, we already had a lot going wrong, but my roommate woke up yesterday in serious condition and would be in the hospital right now if I could afford to bring him food while he's there. For context, he's got multiple severe and hard to accomidate allergies. He's sick from complications from celiacs.

Right now, hes stable on meds, but that wont last without food. We need funds for food urgently, next week's rent, and transportation. I've budgeted for everything he will need while sick for a week, though ik he'll be recovering for longer than that. I'm worried abt these things before anything else right now, he's all that matters to me so I have to make sure he's okay. We were able to negotiate a truce w our landlord due to the severity of the situation.

hey so my name is jake!! i’m a blasian trans gay dude and a while back i was diagnosed with hashimoto’s thyroiditis (an autoimmune disease that makes my body attack my thyroid for presumably no reason). so on december 15th, i had the surgery to get rid of my left thyroid lobe. during surgery, they found that my left lobe had 3-5 cancerous tumors and they removed my whole thyroid instead of just half. (the pics above are all the proof i have atm due to the fact that we haven’t gotten the paperwork back from the hospital)

so, long story short i still have cancer in my system, which is why i need to go through radiation therapy for it. due to the fact that my medicine (levothyroxine) can promote cancerous cells to spread & duplicate faster whencombined with the radiation therapy (don’t ask me how i don’t know) my surgeon told me that i should stay off of my medication so that my cancer doesn’t spread to my lymph nodes… and the lymph node cancer 5-year survival rate is only about 25%… which is really fucking scary

but the thing is: i can only survive 21 days without a thyroid and the horomones the thyroid gives, and my surgery happened 5 days ago.

i really cannot afford therapy, we can barely afford food rn. the surgery & numerous doctors visits that got me here took $13k+ from us, and radiation therapy will take at least another thousand from us and we really can’t do that. so unless i raise at least another 2k in the next few weeks, i’ll either die or be forced to deal with more cancer in my system which will inevitably kill me.

tl;dr: i have 16 days to raise $2k+ for post-cancer radiation therapy or i might actually die.

the sheer number of people replying positively to the idea of fucking supermarket security having free reign to execute you for shoplifting is insane i mean neurodivergent

genderoutlaws

the murder victim was a Black trans man named Banko Brown who was a community organizer with the Young Women’s Freedom Center since the age of 12. he’d been struggling with housing insecurity and still devoting all his time to helping his community for about a decade. he died just trying to survive this fucked up system. here is the gofundme set up by loved ones for his funeral services if anyone is able to contribute, it’s still about $5k off

As someone who is autistic, I cannot, CANNOT emphasize enough the damage the mantra of 'Do or do not, there is no try' did to me. Is it a quote from a fictional mutilated frog in a just as fictional universe? Yes. Did people take it onboard as an actual Thing to Live By? Yes.

Here's the deal- for me, and a ton of other neurodivergent people, trying is tantamount to one of the greatest efforts we can give. Trying is our best some days. It's giving it our all. We're gonna screw up, and fail, and probably be a little bit sad and angry because of it, but lemme tell you a secret.

Doing things halfway, means we tried. It means we didn't just walk away from it. For me for example, if I'm so depressed or in such a sensory-sensitive space that I can't unload the dishwasher, I might still be able to gather all the dirty dishes and put them in one spot for later. Can't shower? I can still run a warm washcloth over my face and put some deodorant on.

You get the gist. If you have a loved one - family, friend, or otherwise - who is on the spectrum or neurodivergent in some way and you see them struggling, don't push them to 'just do it'. Praise them for trying, encourage their efforts and don't get angry if they have to stop.

Trying is doing.
